Dugri is a place for honest and emotional conversation, a place to give and receive support. It is not, however, a replacement for professional support or a sufficient outlet for someone who’s in crisis. The first step is understanding when a conversation has exceeded Dugri’s capacity as a peer support tool.
What is the difference between stress, distress, and emotional crisis?
Stress: Life’s personal and professional burdens weigh on us. It is usually experienced as an ongoing feeling of pressure, unease, and an accompanying sense of anxiety. Stress in small bites can help you stay alert and at your best. Over time, stress can build and exacerbate distress and burnout. Dugri can help you seek support by talking to an ally and unburdening yourself.
Distress: Distress is when stress starts to get out of control: the general feeling that “this is too much for me to handle.” The mood worsens, anxiety rises and depression often sets in. It’s not healthy and obviously not fun. Dugri can ease your distress, and help you manage your stress levels to maintain wellness.
Extreme emotional crisis: When high levels of stress outweigh one’s coping resources, distress turns into crisis. A crisis can be the outcome of life changes—relocation, job loss, a relationship issue, loss and bereavement, or other traumatic experiences. At the height of a personal crisis, rage, depression, and severe anxiety can trigger extreme emotional emergencies: situations where thoughts of death and suicide may occur. Those in emotional crisis may find themselves contemplating plans for self harm or violence to others.
Is Dugri made for extreme emotional crises?
We are here for each other and to provide support, but each ally must be responsible for his or her own health and security. Please seek advice from your general practitioner or mental health professional to address your medical and mental health needs. Dugri cannot replace medical or mental health services.
How to react to an ally in an extreme emotional crisis?
Dugri cannot replace medical or mental health services. When you sense that an ally is in extreme emotional crisis, it’s best to tap the icon to Offer Support . This sends a notification referring them to appropriate emergency resources.
